WA has been selected as the next host of the world’s largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) conference, LNG 18, from 12-15 April 2016 in Perth. LNG is the tri-annual flagship event of the LNG industry, attracting thousands of senior LNG executives to learn best practice, network with the entire spectrum of the LNG value chain, and ultimately generate new business.

LNG18 provides an unparalleled opportunity to promote Western Australia’s petroleum resources and role as a global energy supplier, and Perth as a major centre for expertise and services to the petroleum industry in Australia and Asia. Talking about the announcement, Mines and Petroleum Minister Bill Marmion said: “LNG18 is expected to attract 5,000 delegates and exhibitors and inject more than $50million into the State’s economy, the largest such event in WA’s history.”

Western Australia’s successful bid to hold LNG18 was led by the Australian Gas Industry Trust and strongly supported by the Federal Government and Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association. With two thirds of Australian reserves located in three basins off the Western Australian coast, Perth, Western Australia’s capital city is the ideal location for LNG 18.

Australia is currently the third largest exporter in the Asia Pacific region and the fourth largest LNG exporter in the world, and was the largest LNG supplier to Japan in 2012. By 2016, WA is expected to have an annual LNG production capacity of more than 50 million tonnes – up from the current level of 20 million tonnes.
