Commerce Minister Simon O’Brien officially opened the new facilities for Matrix Composites and Engineering at the Australian Marine Complex (AMC) in Henderson in early June. The new facilities will include the world’s largest and most sophisticated buoyancy production plant, and an undercover workshop area of approximately 20,000 square metres.
Mr O’Brien said Matrix was achieving phenomenal success as a resources service and supply company for the subsea oil and gas, mining and defence industries. “The AMC was developed to enhance the opportunities created by the clustering of like-minded companies and industry sectors, and plays an important role in assisting Western Australian businesses to compete internationally and be involved in major resource projects,” he said.
Matrix is a leading Australian manufacturer of engineering products and currently exports its products to more than 30 countries around the world. In 2010, Matrix was announced as winner in the Large Advanced Manufacturing category of both the WA Industry and Export Awards and the Australian Export Awards.
Matrix’s new facility at the AMC is a two-stage development located on 8.3 hectares immediately to the east of the AMC Common User Facility. The site also has direct proximity and access to $400 million of State-funded infrastructure.
