Funding secured for Augusta Adventure Fest

The State Government, through Tourism WA, has signed a two-year deal to sponsor the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest. Recognised as the world’s biggest adventure race, the popular event regularly attracts more than 3,500 participants to Augusta and the surrounding South-West region.

This year’s event, to be held on November 4-5, includes coastal and trail running, mountain-biking, kayaking and ocean swimming. It is expected to bring about 10,000 intrastate, interstate and international visitors to the region. Competitors can participate in one of three races – the 56 kilometre Adventure Race, the Augusta Mini short course or the Augusta Junior Survivor for children.

The Augusta Adventure Fest is supported by the State Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program. Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said events such as the Augusta Adventure Fest delivered significant benefits to the WA economy, increasing tourism spending and creating jobs.

Comments attributed to Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“Regional events like the Augusta Adventure Fest are important as they generate strong community engagement and participation, encourage high levels of intrastate visitation, and attract national media attention.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity to promote Augusta as a genuine adventure tourism destination and showcase the spectacular natural features of the region. The State Government’s goal is to see the contribution of regional tourism increase to $4.75 billion by 2020, and supporting regional events like this will help us achieve that goal.”

Comments attributed to Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“Events like the Act-Belong-Commit Augusta Adventure Fest help to position regional WA as a recognised tourism destination, generating additional visitor spend and bringing significant economic benefits to the State.

“Regional events are a strategic asset for WA; they create job opportunities and increase the quality of life in regional communities.”
