Premier of Western Australia to travel to Japan to enhance bilateral relationship

  • Japan and South Korea among WA’s most significant trading partners

Premier Mark McGowan will travel to Japan and South Korea next week to reaffirm the State’s long-standing relationships in North East Asia and promote opportunities for investment, tourism, study and business in WA.

The mission, the Premier’s second official visit to both countries, will be an opportunity to promote two way trade and investment in a range of different sectors, including medical research and biotech, space, defence, and agriculture, with a focus on renewable energy, critical minerals, downstream processing

The Premier will travel to Japan on Sunday, 22 January to attend discussions with key government and business partners, meeting with the executives from Japanese trading houses, steel mills, airlines and power utility companies.

During the mission, the Premier will meet with Government officials including the Governor of Tokyo and the Governor of Hyogo Prefecture.

The Premier will also speak at the 4th Clean Fuel Ammonia Association International Symposium in Japan to promote WA’s green hydrogen and ammonia industries.

Japan is Western Australia’s 2nd largest trading partner with a two way trade value of $33.2 Billion AUD in 2021-22.
