Our role in Japan |

Expanding opportunities for growth

Our mission in Japan is to support, help coordinate and expand the vital WA-Japan trade, which accounts for nearly 40 per cent of the state’s total exports. To achieve this, we provide a key link to Japanese investment into Western Australia, and assist Western Australian businesses to access and grow in the Japan market.

In the resources sector, we help generate new business connections and investments in the mineral, agricultural and manufacturing sectors. In addition, we assist in facilitating significant Japanese investment in agricultural processing, plantation and tourism projects in the state. Both the State and Federal governments welcome direct investment by Japanese firms.

Helping WA exporters open new markets
For Western Australian exporters, we provide assistance in finding markets for their products and services in Japan. The key focus in our Tokyo Office is assisting Small to Medium Business Enterprises (SMEs) overcome hurdles to enter the market, applying our extensive local knowledge and expertise to support new market entrants.

Growing our Sister State relationship with Hyogo
In addition, our Kobe Office is also responsible for maintaining close economic and cultural links with the Hyogo Prefectural Government, the Sister State of Western Australia, and the Kansai Region in general. Our Kobe Office maintains close links with the Hyogo Prefectural Government through the management of various commercial, educational and staff exchanges. The office also supports trade development and investment activity between the Kansai region and Western Australia.

Reporting directly to the Premier’s Department
To facilitate our role, our offices have direct links to all departments of the Western  Australia Government, the Australian Embassy and regional consulates in Japan. Both offices report to the Commissioner in Tokyo and are accountable to the Premier of Western Australia and the Director General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
